Perfumes and Colognes reflect the intensity of aromatic compounds in a mix of ethanol and water. The most common intensities used by perfumers are parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette, eau de cologne. Parfum has between 15% to 25% of aromatic compounds; eau de parfum has between 10% and 20%; eau de toilette has between 4% to 15%; and eau de cologne has between 2% and 5%. Givenchy Xeryus has the eau de toilette intensity, hence has between 4% and 15% of aromatic compounds.
In 1983, Michael Edwards created a system for classifying perfumes called the Fragrance Wheel. According to this classification system, there are fourteen different Families. Xeryus Givenchy is part of the Aromatic Family. Dominant notes of lavender and aromatic notes are characteristic of perfumes classified as Aromatic.
There are four more subdivisions within each Fragrance Family. These subdivisions are called Fresh, Crisp, Classical, and Rich. Fresh is the brightest and highest interpretation of the Family, and Rich is the deepest and richest interpretation. Xeryus Cologne is part of the Crisp interpretation of the Aromatic Family.
The life of every fragrance progresses through three stages. They are referred to as Top Notes, Middle Notes, and Base Notes. These stages are a result of the varying levels of volatility of the Fragrance Notes that make up a fragrance. In other words, some fragrance ingredients in Xeryus will evaporate faster than others, therefore producing different impressions at certain stages of its life on the skin.
The Top Notes for Givenchy Xeryus consists of Bergamot, Lily of the Valley, Ylang-Ylang, Nutmeg Flower, Jasmine, Violet, Mandarin Orange, Green Notes, Lavender, Lemon, and Rose. These fragrance notes evaporate quickly, only lasting up to 20 minutes.
Middle Notes emerge when the Top Notes dissipate. Middle Notes are known for being the key scent for a perfume. Coriander, Cyclamen, Carnation, Cypress, Sandalwood, Juniper Berries, Geranium, Terragon, Petit Grain and Cinnamon are the Middle Notes for the perfume Xeryus Givenchy.
The Base Notes for Xeryus Cologne include Musk, Amber, Leather, Cedar, Incense, Vetiver, Balsam Fir, and Oakmoss. They are the longest lasting qualities of a fragrance and help to slow down the evaporation of the lighter notes.
If you like Xeryus, you would probably like other fragrances that belong to the Aromatic Family. Some suggestions are Emporio Armani Remix for Him, pasha de Cartier for Men, Hugo XY by Hugo Boss, Design by Paul Sebastian, and Xeryus Rouge by Givenchy.
